TOKYO, Oct.6 (Reuters) – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his Australian counterpart Marise Payne on Tuesday discussed their shared concerns about China’s “malicious activity” in the region, a department official said. of state.
Pompeo is in Japan for a meeting of the “Quad” grouping of foreign ministers: United States, Japan, Australia and India. The meeting comes at a time of heightened tension with China.
“Secretary Pompeo and Foreign Minister Payne stressed the importance of the Quad talks for the promotion of peace, security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific,” said senior deputy spokesperson Cale Brown in a post-meeting reading.
