Delhi Capitals (DC) opener Prithvi Shaw received praise from former Australian cricketer and franchise head coach Ricky Ponting after a daring shot during a training session in the UAE. Ponting watched Shaw closely as the young batsman prepared for a pacemaker. The 20-year-old made perfect contact with bat on ball as DC’s head coach watched before acknowledging the beauty of the shot. Shot mate. Great shot, ”Ponting said. All franchises have trained for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), having completed mandatory quarantine under UAE government and IPL guidelines. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were the last team to begin training, with the franchise taking the field on Friday after a third round of COVID-19 testing.

Shaw seems to have been upbeat lately, as evidenced by his big smile in a photo shared by DC’s official Twitter handle featuring the opener and teammate Shikhar Dhawan. “#WideSmileWed Wednesday must be something,” read the caption on the Tweet.
Shaw scored 353 runs in 16 games for DC in the previous edition of the tournament, as the franchise entered the playoffs after seven years. DC was forced to fix a few issues before the start of IPL 2020 following the loss of key players Chris Woakes and Jason Roy who opted out of the tournament.
South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje and Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams have been hired as replacements.
The 13th edition of the IPL is scheduled for September 19.
