Ravi Shastri, head coach of the Indian men’s team, praised Virat Kohli and said he knew there was an “uncut diamond” in the current Indian skipper when he took over the coaching role in 2014. Ravi Shastri, speaking on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Live’, also mentioned that Kohli handled successes as well as failures well. “Just from the way it evolved, you knew there was an uncut diamond when I took over in 2014, but just to watch it evolve… It takes time, everything doesn’t happen quickly,” said Shastri.
Team India’s head coach also added that, like Kohli, who became a father last month, will be able to face the challenges of being a father in the same way as he tackled the success and failure on the pitch .
“You have to have the ups, the downs, you know, you have to feel the heat, you have to have your successes and failures, to get up and move on in life. I think he handled that beautifully and I am sure he will treat fatherhood the same way too, ‘added Shastri.
Under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, team India managed to secure their first Test Series victory in Australia.
The skipper from India also led the country to the Champions Trophy final in 2017 and the semi-finals of the World Cup 50-over in 2019.
Kohli has captained 57 Tests, of which India has won 33 games.
In ODIs, Kohli led India to 63 wins from 92 games in which he took the field as captain of the squad.
