RCB vs KKR: Sunil Narine will try to beat AB de Villiers and other RCB stars in Sharjah.© BCCI / IPL
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman AB de Villiers was fired on Saturday for a duck against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) when the two sides faced each other in the southern derby. De Villiers pushed a cross-seamer from Shardul Thakur to wicket-keeper MS Dhoni, in what was an unexpected failure for the South African. Thakur celebrated with great enthusiasm, aware of the rarity of the moment with the South African batsman’s dismissal for a low score, which was not often seen. De Villiers will be itching to make up and come back in between runs against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. However, Windies spinner Sunil Narine, who emerged as the hero during KKR’s previous Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 league game against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), will strive to ensure the bare run continues.
Narine was handed the ball by skipper Dinesh Karthik, with KXIP needing 22 runs on 18 deliveries. The spinner got just two runs from his over before defending 14 runs from the last over against Glenn Maxwell. The 32-year-old will be very confident and eager to add five wickets in six matches, averaging 35.60 and a strike rate of 26.40.
However, Narine will have to bring all his variations and experience into play against an excited De Villiers who will be eager to get his third half century in the current edition. An exciting battle awaits between two of the best players in the shortest format of the game.
