Riyan Parag, an 18-year-old Assam cricketer, took Rajasthan Royals (RR) victory against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on a festive note, with a crushing six and a hip Bihu twist. RR defeated SRH by five wickets in an exciting encounter, in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). SRH had set a target of 159 points, which RR was to pursue. It didn’t start well for RR, who lost crucial wickets. Parag and Rahul Tewatia built a critically undefeated partnership with 85 points from the 12th. After the competition, Parag gave a crash course to Tewatia, teaching him a basic movement of traditional Assamese dance. Here’s the video:

In the video, Parag explained that he was motivated to do the dance because of the net bowlers who were also in the stadium. He revealed that some of them were from Assam and shouted for him. ‘They were there. So for them I did it in the heat of the moment, ‘he joked.
The youngster had also performed the dance last season.
Parag scored an unbeaten hit of 42 runs on 26 deliveries. It was also packed with two fours and two sixes.
Tewatia completed an unbeaten knockout of 45 runs in 28 balls. He also hit four fours and two sixes.
Bihu is a traditional folk dance from Assam and is usually performed during the Bihu festival. It is usually performed in a group consisting of female and male dances, showing quick steps and quick hand movements.
After the victory, RR is currently sixth in the rankings after seven games. They have won three games and lost two. SRH is now fifth after seven games. They have recorded three wins and four losses.
In its next game, Steve Smith’s team will face Delhi Capitals on October 14. SRH will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on September 13.
