After losing the Test series 2-0 to England due to dismal batting performances, Sri Lanka’s stand-in skipper Dinesh Chandimal said on Monday that their batsmen should hit like a visit to skipper Joe Root. Dominic Sibley hit an unbeaten 56 and Jos Buttler made a 48-ball 46 when England chased 164 to beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in the second Test on Monday at the Galle International Stadium to take the series 2-0.
Root got both Man of the Match and Series for his impeccable form with the bat. The English skipper had scored 186 in the first innings of the second Test and this knock followed the 200-run innings in the first Test.
According to Chandimal, England beat the hosts on the fourth day and Sri Lanka ‘previous hard work was in vain.
“We were outplayed today. We’ve done all the hard work for the last three days, but as a hitting unit we made the same mistakes as during the first test on day one. We have to learn to hit like Root. We have to be patient with the battle. We’ve done well in patches, but it’s not good enough against a team like England.
Thanks to them, they did very well. Even I didn’t understand the collapse. I played a brash shot so I took responsibility. But no one in our line-up took the responsibility. A score of 250 would have been good on this wicket., ”he added.
The Sri Lankan skipper praised spinner Lasith Embuldeniya, who won 10 wickets in the second test and a total of 15 scalps in the series.
“In the future we have to learn to hit with patience. But the boys will learn to move forward. Embuldeniya has been excellent throughout the series. He does all the hard work in practice and he always asks how he can improve with the bat and the bat. ball. He will be an asset to us in the future. I am really disappointed with the way I have hit. I have to learn from my mistakes and I will come back strong, “said Chandimal.
