Russia became the first country to register the world‘s first COVID-19 vaccine on August 11. Sputnik V was developed by the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Ministry of Health in Gamaleya.
On November 11, Russia announced that its Sputnik V vaccine was 92 percent effective in protecting people from COVID-19, according to the first interim analysis.
On November 17, Moderna announced in its official statement that the independent, NIH-appointed Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) for the Phase 3 study with mRNA-1273 had informed Moderna that the study had statistical criteria previously stated in the study protocol for effectiveness with a vaccine effectiveness of 94.5%.
Similarly, on Nov. 18, Pfizer had stated that the final results of the late-study study of its coronavirus vaccine were 95 percent effective and had no serious side effects in the elderly.
