In a tweet late Monday night, Anurag Kashyap shared a statement issued by his lawyer, which read: “My client, Anurag Kashyap, has been deeply hurt by the false allegations of sexual misconduct that have recently surfaced against him. These accusations are completely false, malicious and dishonest. ” Actress Payal Ghosh, in a recent interview with ABN Telugu, accused the 48-year-old filmmaker of “forcing himself” on her. He even sent tweets to the National Commission for Women and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking intervention in the matter.

“My client has been fully informed of his legal rights and remedies and intends to exercise them to the fullest extent possible,” added Kashyap’s attorney.

On Sunday, Kashyap addressed the allegations for the first time, in a series of tweets written in Hindi, describing the allegations as an “attempt to silence him”: “Wow, it took you so long to try to silence me.” Never mind … in an attempt to silence me, he has dragged another woman into this, despite being a woman. Please stay within limits, ma’am. All I want to say is that all the accusations are unfounded. “

The actress Kangana Ranaut, who often engages in bitter exchanges with her colleagues, Anurag Kashyap among them, tweeted in support of Payal Ghosh and wrote: “Anurag is very capable of doing what Payal Ghosh suggests.” Ms. Ranaut also claimed that she has faced sexual harassment in the Hindi film industry.

In 2018, when director Vikas Bahl’s name was implicated in India’s #MeToo movement, Anurag Kashyap, who co-founded the Phantom Films production house with Vikas Bahl, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena, dissolved the production house. Various celebrities from the film industry were named in alleged #MeToo stories when the movement took over social media in recent years, including Nana Patekar, Alok Nath, Subhash Ghai, Sajid Khan, Anu Malik and others.
