Geneva, Switzerland:

The Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche announced on Tuesday that it would start a test at the end of September that will detect the novel coronavirus within 15 minutes.

They said the test identifies the SARS-CoV-2 virus that caused the global pandemic that has killed more than 851,000 people worldwide to date.

It will initially be available to countries that recognize the CE mark for products sold in the Euroupean Union but urgently need US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval.

“At the start, 40 million SARS-CoV-2 rapid tests will be available per month,” a capacity that would more than double by the end of the year, according to the company’s statement.

Roche will market and distribute the product in collaboration with the biotech company SD Biosensor Inc.
