The United States saw a record number of new coronavirus cases on Thursday.

The United States saw a record number of new coronavirus cases on Thursday, exceeding 90,000 diagnoses for the first time in a 24-hour period, according to a record by Johns Hopkins University.

The country, where the Covid-19 outbreak has resurfaced since mid-October, recorded 91,295 new cases in the 24 hours to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday (0030 GMT Friday) according to a real-time count from Baltimore -based school.

The US has counted 8.94 million cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic began, most in any country in the world.

In the same 24-hour period, 1,021 people died of Covid-19 in the United States, resulting in a total of 228,625 deaths. It is the highest registered toll in the world.

The country’s previous record for daily cases was set on Saturday with 88,973 new infections.

The virus is currently most prevalent in the Midwest.

Five days before the election, Democrat Joe Biden made Donald Trump’s handling of the health crisis his main point of attack against the president.
