A 7.7 magnitude earthquake in the South Pacific has triggered a tsunami, the Australian weather agency announced on Thursday.

“Tsunami confirmed,” the Australian meteorological bureau said in a tweet when it warned of a threat to Lord Howe Island, which is about 550 kilometers east of mainland Australia.
