When US President Joe Biden took office on Wednesday, Twitter gave him control of an official @ POTUS account as part of the transfer of power.
One-to-Many Intelligence put Biden’s team in control of all official White House accounts and activated a new @SecondGentleman handle for the husband of the country’s first female vice president, Kamala Harris.
White House, President, Vice President, First Lady and White House Press Secretary accounts “now have their new institutional usernames inherited,” according to Twitter.
Tweets posted on the accounts before Biden was sworn in as the 46th U.S. President are archived, and the accounts do not automatically retain followers who signed up during the Trump administration.
Outgoing President Donald Trump was an obsessive Twitter user of his personal account – which the platform banned for inciting violence – while using the official accounts associated with the presidency.
“There is no time to lose when it comes to tackling the crises we are facing,” Biden said in a tweet on @POTUS.
“So I’m going to the Oval Office today to get down to work delivering bold action and immediate relief to American families.”
Harris tweeted a message from the @VP account and tweeted “Ready to Serve” from her @VP account.
Douglas Emhoff described himself as a proud husband on his @SecondGentleman profile.
Biden’s team also inherited the official @WhiteHouse, @PressSec, and @FLOTUS accounts.
After the unprecedented violence at the seat of Congress, Trump was banned for inciting the rioters – on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube by Google and Snapchat.
