February 16 (Reuters) – India beat England by 317 points in the second test to tie the four-game series 1-1 at the M A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.
Chasing a record-breaking 482 victory goal, England were all out for 164 in their second inning with No.9 batsman Moeen Ali their top scorer with a breezy 43.
Indian spinner Axar Patel (5-60) won a five in his first test.
Spin’s colleague Ravichandran Ashwin returned 3-53 to finish with an eight-wicket match to accompany his scintillating century in India’s second round.
Moeen smashed five sixes, including three in a row against Patel, in his 27-ball blitz before being the last man sent off on the penultimate day.
Skipper Joe Root clocked 33 before falling to Patel, which effectively marked the end of England’s resistance on a curve track.
England had been on the back foot after being contested for 134 in their opening innings.
The third test, a day-night competition, is scheduled for Ahmedabad from February 24.
