Washington, United States:
The US announced on Friday economic sanctions against Chinese and Russian companies that Washington said had supported the development of the Iranian missile program.
The four companies that are accused of “transferring sensitive technology and items into the Iranian missile program” will be subject to restrictions on US government aid and exports for two years, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement.
The sanctions imposed on Wednesday were directed against two China-based companies, Chengdu Best New Materials and Zibo Elim Trade, as well as against Russia-based Nilco Group and public company Elecon.
“We will continue to work to obstruct Iran’s missile development efforts and use our sanctions authorities to spotlight foreign suppliers like these companies in the PRC (China) and Russia who provide Iran with missile-related materials and technology move, “added Pompeo.
In 2018, President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the Iranian nuclear deal concluded three years earlier under then-President Barack Obama.
Trump has since imposed crippling sanctions on the Islamic Republic in what he calls a “maximum pressure” campaign.
The Trump administration has since also shown its determination to sanction any foreign country or company that is inconsistent with its Iranian policies.
