Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar married his fiancé Vaishali Visweswaran on Thursday in a ceremony that took place amid restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. His Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise SunRisers Hyderabad took to Instagram to share a photo of the wedding ceremony, wishing the couple a “happy and blessed” married life. “We send our best wishes to @ vijay_41 on this very special day! May you have a happy and blessed married life #SRHFamily #OrangeArmy #SRH,” the Hyderabad-based franchise’s post on Instagram read.
The all-rounder announced his engagement with an Instagram post last year on August 20. Shankar had uploaded two photos with his fiancé and ringed the post with a ring emoji. KL Rahul, Yuzvendra Chahal, Karun Nair, Abhinav Mukund were some of the cricketers who congratulated the all-rounder on this announcement.
The 30-year-old was not part of the recently concluded Indian tour of Australia.
Shankar made his debut in the shortest form of the match for Team India in 2018 against Sri Lanka in Colombo. His first international appearance in the 50-over format came against Australia in Melbourne a year later.
He was part of the Indian squad at the 2019 World Cup in the UK.
The 30-year-old has been detained by SRH for the upcoming edition of the IPL, with five players released by the franchise. Billy Stanlake and Fabian Allen are the overseas cricketers released by the Hyderabad-based team.
