Ahead of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals batsman David Miller said he is “in awe” of the yachting prowess of former Indian skipper MS Dhoni and that he wants to do the same. The South African middle-order batsman is kicking off this IPL season with the new Rajasthan franchise after being released by Kings XI Punjab last year ahead of the annual auction.

“I think we are all very different in the way we think we play. I absolutely love the way Dhoni goes about his business. Certainly his composure – you just think he’s always under control. That is something that he is extremely good at and that I like about him. I try to give the same energy. But in terms of an actual chase he has his strengths and weaknesses as a batsman and me too, “quoted ESPNcricinfo Miller .

Miller went on to refer to Dhoni as “ one of the best finishers ever ” and said he loves watching him play.

“I tend to be impressed with some of his chases instead of ‘I want to bat like him’. I suppose I just want to finish games like him. Technically and the way you go about it, we have all our own ways. I don’t think I can judge myself or put myself in any category. We’ll see how my career unfolds and ends, and then we can look back and be some sort of judge. Dhoni is definitely one of the best finishers ever, he has proven it many times over. I love to see him play, “he added.

According to Miller, he has not been given a specific role in the team from now on and the player gets back into the rhythm and hits the balls hard in practice.

“I have not had any discussion with it [RR head coach] Andrew McDonald, so it’s more just getting balls ready and hitting and going back to business because I haven’t hit any balls in a few months. It’s about getting your body going, getting your feet going. In terms of plans and roles and all, we have yet to get into that, ”said the left-handed batsman.

Rajasthan will face Chennai Super Kings in their opening game on September 22.
