Coronavirus: Donald Trump Said He and First Lady Melania Tested Positive for COVID-19 (file)

US President Donald Trump said early Friday that he and First Lady Melania had tested positive for the coronavirus. “Tonight @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through TOGETHER!” Trump tweeted.

President Trump is “fine” and will continue to do his duties “uninterrupted” while he is quarantined along with the first lady after they both tested positive for the coronavirus, the president’s doctor said.

They “are both in good shape at this time and plan to stay home at the White House during their recovery,” Doctor Sean Conley said in a statement.

“I expect the president to continue performing his duties uninterruptedly during recovery.”

Trump said late Thursday he would go into quarantine after a top aide tested positive for coronavirus. The White House cut a campaign trip to Florida from Trump’s schedule after testing positive for COVID-19. He was scheduled to hold a campaign rally at Sanford Airport in Florida on Friday night, but his new schedule only includes a midday call on “Covid-19 Assistance for Vulnerable Seniors”.

In an interview with Fox News, he confirmed that Hope Hicks, one of his closest confidants, had tested positive.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that people stay home and isolate for up to 14 days if they have been exposed to the virus.

Hicks was only on Air Force One with Trump this Tuesday to fly to Cleveland for the first presidential debate with Democrat Joe Biden.

She was also with him in the Marine One helicopter on Wednesday when he flew back to the White House after a rally in Minnesota.
